There is an insurmountable amount of physio machines and devices available that claim to be the goose that lays the golden eggs in terms of pain relief. From ultrasounds to lasers, many physiotherapist studios and clinics opt to transition over towards more electronic tools in getting back on track.

But are these new machines and technological contraptions worth a try?

And do they actually have a place in today’s physio environment?

Marketed as tools for diminishing pain symptoms, there is no shortage regarding the resources out there for physiotherapists and patients alike. The rise of the massage gun has even brought pain relief now to our homes where many brands promote their rechargeable tool as the must-have for pain relief.

At Physio Bangkok, we firmly believe there is a place for everything. Depending on the strategy in getting clients into a more fitness state, the overuse of these machines may not always be the right way to work towards a pain-free lifestyle.

Yet the power of healing still lies in the capable hands of certified physiotherapists. Through extensive knowledge, using trigger points and applying different levels of force onto the treatment, physios from across the globe still swear by using ‘manual’ labour as their to-go tool. It is only when one sees the benefit of adding technology with a physiotherapeutic function to the treatment plan.

While ultrasound is now seen as the most popular tool for physio treatment, it is often not needed and may even extend the path to a pain-free lifestyle. Many certified physiotherapists may opt for a technical shortcut, however, it may not be the hack one needs to speed up the process.

With variables on the strength of the ultrasound and laser as potential risk factors for further damage, the process of setting yourself up for a prolonged treatment plan may well be in the books.

At Aspire Physio Bangkok, we treat office syndrome and lower back pain mainly with hands-on treatment and exercise, without relying on EMS muscle stimulators or ultrasound.

Many clinics still reach for EMS muscle stimulators and ultrasound machines first. Ultrasound may help reduce pain, but it does not identify or fix the root cause. This systematic review found ultrasound therapy could be an alternative treatment to reduce the intensity of pain in subjects with non-specific chronic LBP (Lower Back Pain).

Instead, Physio Bangkok focuses on long-term health solutions such as exercise therapy and providing clear advice and expectations about the injury to identify and correct the root cause of pain.

We don’t reach for a machine as soon as you describe your symptoms.

A free consultation at our private Bangkok physiotherapy studio in downtown Bangkok may be the confirmation you need that manual treatment may be the solution to delivering fitness results.
