How claiming works at Aspire

  1. Check your policy. Confirm that outpatient physiotherapy is covered, how many sessions are allowed and whether your insurer needs a doctor’s referral first.
  2. Tell us your insurer when you book. Let us know which insurer you’re with and which documents they ask for, so we can prepare the right paperwork.
  3. Come in for your assessment and treatment. Your first consultation is free.
  4. Submit your claim. We give you the documents your provider asks for, and you submit them to your insurer through their app, portal or claim form.

The documents we give you

To support your claim, we provide:

  • Dated receipts for your sessions
  • A consultation report from your assessment
  • Your treatment plan

If your insurer asks for anything else, tell us when you book and we’ll let you know what we can provide.

What insurers usually ask for

Requirements vary, but the major insurers’ own claims guidance follows a common pattern:

  • An itemised receipt or invoice showing the patient’s name, the provider, the date, each service and its cost. Bupa Global lists these details, plus the symptoms or diagnosis (Bupa Global claims FAQ).
  • A diagnosis or medical report. Allianz Care asks for the diagnosis on the claim form or invoice (Allianz Care claim form), and Thai Health Insurance asks for a medical certificate stating the diagnosis and treatment (Thai Health Insurance claim services).
  • Original receipts, for some insurers. Pacific Cross asks for the original receipt rather than a photocopy (Pacific Cross FAQ). Others, such as Cigna Global and AXA, accept uploaded invoices (Cigna Global claims process; AXA Global Healthcare claims).
  • A referral or prescription, for some insurers. Allianz Care asks for the referring physician’s details for physiotherapy claims, and LUMA lists a doctor’s prescription with the medical indication for physical therapy (LUMA claims).

Always go by your own policy documents, as rules differ between plans from the same insurer.

Not sure what’s driving your pain?

Your first consultation is free. A physiotherapist will assess you properly and explain what’s going on, with no pressure to book more.

Insurer by insurer: what they ask for

We read the claims guidance each of these insurers publishes. This is a summary of what they say, checked in September 2026. Insurers change their rules and plans differ, so treat it as a starting point and confirm with your own policy.

Not on the list? Ask your insurer three questions: is outpatient physiotherapy covered, do I need a referral, and what documents do you need. Then tell us the answers when you book.

Do you need a doctor’s referral?

Not to see us. You can book a physiotherapy assessment at Aspire directly. Whether your insurer will pay without a referral depends on your policy: some pay for self-referred physiotherapy, others only pay when a doctor has referred you. If your insurer requires a referral, get it before you start treatment so your sessions are covered from the first visit. We can recommend clinics nearby where you can see a doctor for a referral.

Which kind of cover pays for physiotherapy

Physiotherapy after an assessment at a clinic is normally claimed as outpatient (OPD) care. That matters because many plans in Thailand cap outpatient benefits separately from hospital stays, either per visit, per year or both.

  • International health insurance (Cigna, Allianz, Bupa, AXA and similar). Outpatient physiotherapy is often included on plans that carry an outpatient module. Some need a referral first.
  • Thai health insurance. Check whether your plan includes OPD at all; some are inpatient only.
  • Company or group health insurance. Many employers include outpatient cover. Your HR team or the insurer’s member app will show your limit and what documents they need.
  • Travel insurance. Usually designed for sudden illness or injury during a trip, so it may pay for treatment of a new injury but rarely for ongoing rehab of a long-standing problem. Read the outpatient and pre-existing condition sections.
  • After surgery. If your operation was covered as an inpatient claim, ask whether follow-up physiotherapy falls under the same claim or under your outpatient limit. The answer changes what paperwork you need. See our post-surgery rehab page.

Paying at the clinic or direct billing

There are two ways a physiotherapy claim can be paid. With reimbursement, you pay after your session and send the documents to your insurer, who pays you back. With direct billing, sometimes called a guarantee of payment, the insurer pays the clinic and you pay only any excess or amount above your limit.

Aspire doesn’t offer direct billing. You pay at the clinic after each session and claim the cost back from your insurer, using the documents we give you. Your first consultation is free, and treatment sessions start from ฿1,600.

Before your first visit: a quick claim checklist

  • Does my policy cover outpatient physiotherapy?
  • Is there a limit on sessions or on the amount per visit or per year?
  • Do I need a doctor’s referral or prescription first?
  • Does my insurer want original receipts, or will photos or uploads do?
  • Is there a deadline for submitting claims after treatment?
  • Which documents should I ask Aspire to prepare?

How to avoid a rejected claim

  • Get any referral first. If your insurer wants a doctor’s referral or prescription, sessions before the referral date may not be covered.
  • Check the name matches. The name on your receipts should match your policy exactly.
  • Ask for the diagnosis on your documents. Most insurers want to see why you were treated, not just what was done.
  • Keep the originals. Some insurers want paper originals, not photos. Keep everything until the claim is paid.
  • Watch the deadline. Some insurers set a time limit for claims after treatment; Thai Health Insurance, for example, asks for claims within 30 days.
  • Know your session cap. If your plan allows a set number of sessions, plan your treatment with your physiotherapist around it.

What treatment includes

A physiotherapy session at Aspire combines hands-on treatment to settle pain, such as manual therapy and dry needling, with corrective exercise coached by your physiotherapist, often on the gym floor one level up. Red light therapy is available as an add-on. We treat back pain, neck and shoulder pain, knee pain, office syndrome and sports injuries. Meet our physiotherapists.

Common questions

Can I claim physiotherapy at Aspire on my health insurance?

Yes. You can claim treatment at Aspire Physio Bangkok with your insurer, and we supply the documents your provider asks for. Whether a claim is paid depends on your policy, so check your outpatient physiotherapy cover before your first visit.

Do I need a doctor’s referral to claim physiotherapy?

It depends on your insurer. You can book with us directly without a referral, but some insurers require one before they will pay a physiotherapy claim. Allianz Care’s claim form, for example, asks for the referring physician’s details, and LUMA lists a doctor’s prescription for physical therapy. Check your policy wording or ask your insurer. If you need a referral, we can recommend clinics nearby where you can see a doctor.

What documents do insurers usually ask for?

Most international insurers ask for an itemised receipt or invoice showing the patient’s name, the provider, the date, each service and its cost, plus a diagnosis or medical report. Some also want original receipts and a referral. Tell us what your insurer needs and we will prepare it.

How do I check whether my policy covers physiotherapy?

Look for outpatient or physiotherapy benefits in your policy documents, or contact your insurer or HR team. Ask whether physiotherapy is covered, whether a referral is required, how many sessions are allowed and whether originals are needed.

Can I claim dry needling, manual therapy or red light therapy?

These are delivered within a physiotherapy session, but insurers differ on what they cover, especially for add-on treatments. Check with your insurer before treatment and we will itemise your receipt so the services are clear.

How much does a session cost before insurance?

Your first consultation is free and physiotherapy treatment sessions start from ฿1,600. The exact cost depends on what your session involves, and we’ll confirm it before you start.

Is direct billing available at Aspire?

No. You pay at the clinic after each session and claim the cost back from your insurer. We give you dated receipts, a consultation report and your treatment plan to support your claim.

Can I claim dry needling or red light therapy?

Dry needling carried out by a licensed physiotherapist within a physiotherapy session is usually claimed as physiotherapy. Add-ons such as red light therapy vary between insurers, so ask your insurer before you book them.

How long do insurers take to pay?

It varies. Pacific Cross, for example, says it processes claims within about ten working days. Sending complete documents the first time is the best way to avoid delays.

Will my travel insurance cover physiotherapy?

Sometimes, for a new injury that happened during your trip. Travel policies rarely cover rehab for long-standing problems. Check the outpatient and pre-existing condition sections of your policy.

Can I get my documents in English?

Tell us which language your insurer needs when you book. Pacific Cross, for example, accepts claims in Thai or English.
